In the lively, sleepless streets of Taiwan, a truck slowly unravels, opening into a grand stage with dazzling neon lights. In the shadows of the temples, the stage reveals limitless colours, and bold designs. Under the radiance of the lights, dancers dance passionately and energetically. In the audiences, men, women, and children gather with smiles – this is one of Taiwan’s most unique sights.

From weddings to funerals, and from festivals to political rallies, the culture of the stage is spreading across Taiwan, on all occasions! A far cry from the stages of the past, today’s transforming stage trucks showcase Taiwan’s technological advancement and social change. Bringing together people from different organizations and backgrounds, The Story House is a place to dream and a place to be creative. This summer, The Story House is taking the inspirations of Taiwanese photographer Mr. Chao-Liang Shen, and leading mobile stage maker, Ji-Da. A devoted photographer who spent years highlighting Taiwan’s unique stage culture, Mr. Shen uses his lens to tell the story of this distinctive art, while Ji-Da uses their sophisticated software to design stages – with endless possibilities. Their collaboration is giving birth to a miniature mobile stage – the Taiwan Stage! Alongside Mr. Shen’s vast range of photos and stories, the music of rock band Sorry Youth and the dances of the Robot Princes are not to be missed on the Taiwan Stage at TAIWANfest!
